Resident of San Mateo on Tuesday, January 24, Katherine, 96, passed away peacefully with her family by her side. Katherine was an active member of the Buddhist Church Fujinkai for many years. She is best acknowledged for her involvement with the Ikenobo Ikebana Assoc. attaining the highest professor status and receiving the Gold Scissor Award. She has performed many demonstrations on the art of Japanese flower arranging and taught privately for many years. She never tired of her love of flowers. She loved all flowers and plants and could tell you the names of every plant growing in her garden.

Katherine is survived by her three children, Florence (George) Fujita, James (Sadae) Tatsukawa, Keiko (Jack) Costella, 5 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters – Shizue Hirabayashi and Yasuko Tashima. She was preceded in death by her husband John Tatsukawa and 2 brothers, George and Fukito Miyagawa.
