Tadashi (Tad) Sakuma passed away peacefully at Sakura Gardens in San Mateo on February 9th, 2020. Born on December 28, 1918 in San Mateo, Tad lived in San Mateo and as a teenager, moved to Japan with his parents and lived there for a few years before returning to San Mateo with his sister. In 1942 during World War II he was interned at a concentration camp in Topaz, Utah where he married Sei Kashiwagi.

Tad was a long time member of Sturge Presbyterian Church serving faithfully (starting in 1951) in many capacities : as an elder 12 times, deacon, Treasurer, and Sunday School teacher. He enjoyed the Japanese art of Bonsai, tending his backyard, and volunteering at church. He was always patient, kind hearted and considerate. When asked about his secret for longevity he would way say "No drinking, no smoking, and no swearing".
