Obituary

Denise Theresa Branchaud passed away peacefully on January 12th due to complications from pneumonia and congestive heart failure. She was born February 24, 1927 in St. Edwidge-de-clifton, Quebec, Canada, the youngest of 5 children.

Denise's family moved to Bristol, Connecticut, when she was in her teen years. After finishing school, she married Lou Joseph Branchaud in May 1948 and they honeymooned in Southern California. They fell in love with California and moved there permanently to raise their family. They were married for 72 years at the time of her death. Denise was a devoted mother and had 3 children; two sons and a daughter.

Her first son, Paul, was born with severe mental and physical disabilities. She never stopped loving and caring for him in their home, right up until her death. Her second son, Mark, died as an infant soon after birth of a heart defect. Her daughter, Ann, was born several years later and is now a doctor in Seattle, Washington. Denise was always fiercely proud of all of her children.

Along with caring for her oldest son, Denise also worked for Lockheed Martin in Southern California, Sears, and Bank of America, both in San Mateo. She enjoyed her work, but her main focus remained caring for her son at home. She retired in her late 50's to devote more time to him as he aged and needed more care.

Denise was also close to her neighbor's daughter, Marji Fields. She began to occasionally care for her two small children, Candice and Jesse. The relationship between them grew until Denise felt as if they were the grandchildren she never had. Denise treasured this relationship throughout her life, right up until her death.

Denise loved to visit with family and friends, often hosting holiday feasts and dinner parties in her younger years. She was a die hard fan of the San Francisco 49er's and loved watching football on television and collecting 49er's memorabilia. She was also an avid reader of her favorite author, Danielle Steel, and prided herself on having read all of her novels.

Denise is survived by her husband, Lou Branchaud, her son, Paul, her daughter, Ann, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by all of her siblings, two brothers and two sisters.

Services and interment will be private. If you wish to honor Denise, please consider supporting St. Jude's Hospital or United Cerebral Palsy with a contribution.
