Tribute & Message From The Family

Laudalino (Larry) Costa passed away peacefully on January 11, 2021. He was 83 years old.

Laudalino was born in the town of Porto Formoso on the island of San Miguel, Azores, on May 16, 1937. He married his wife, Maria, in 1968 and then they immigrated to the United States. Settling down in San Mateo, California, they raised two children— their son, Manuel and their daughter, Elizabeth.

Laudalino loved to garden and was always happy to share fresh fruits, vegetables and flowers with family, friends, and neighbors. He loved all Bay Area sports teams, and would seldom leave home without his Giants baseball cap. Laudalino was a Life Member of the Santo Cristo Society of South San Francisco, and always looked forward to the festas and reminiscing about the old country with his Portuguese friends. Most of all, Laudalino loved his family, who will miss him dearly.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to:

I am very sorry to hear about the loss of Tio Laudalino. I will always remember him as a kind and gentle person. I have many good memories of my visit to California and the time we spent together sightseeing. Too Laudalino was a generous and gracious host and made me feel very welcome.
My deepest sympathy goes out to the whole family.
Love, Anna

I was so sad to hear about the passing of Titio Laudalino. Mom named me after him and I spent my first years living with him in my grandparents' home. Later, in Canada we would have frequent visits from our uncle and family on their way to Sao Miguel. Those visits were so much fun as the whole extended family would gather, eat, drink and reconnect. Later, uncle Laudalino would proudly talk about the bounties of his garden and the battles with the critters in the back yard.
He was a wonderful person full of compassion, kindness, love and laughter. Our condolences to Tia Graca, Liz and Manny. May the memories you have sustain you and help you heal over the next days and years.
Titio laudalina will be forever in our hearts.

Love,

Maria Laudalina, Rufus and Patrick
