Tribute & Message From The Family

Mario Ottino passed away peacefully on Sept 27, 2019, at the age of 89. He was born May 10th, 1930 to Giacomo and Iolanda Ottino of Ronco Canavese, Italy, a small town located in the mountains north of Torino. As an adolescent, Mario attended a Salesian boarding school in Italy and received technical training in machining and electrical engineering. He spent his early 20's working as a machinist in Italy until in 1954 he met a school teacher from San Francisco named Alma Theresa Morosoli while she spent a month touring Italy. The two would fill the next year exchanging love letters across the Atlantic before Mario decided she was the one he wanted to spend his life with, and asked her to marry him. They were joyfully wed in 1955 in Belmonte, Italy, and afterwards he returned with her to San Francisco, despite speaking no English. A man possessing an incredible work-ethic, within two weeks of arrival he had found a full-time job and was taking language classes at night school. After spending the next decade working for Western Gear and becoming the youngest foreman in the company's history, he started his own machine shop, Krobach Mfg, in San Mateo in 1969, which is still going strong today. He was a devoted husband and father to his two sons and enjoyed working on handyman projects around the house and helping others with their projects. He also enjoyed traveling to many different countries with Alma, spending time at his cabin in the town of Strawberry in the Sierra mountains, fishing, snow skiing, and gardening.

He and Alma celebrated over 55 years of marriage until her passing in 2010. Mario leaves behind a sister (Maria Teresa), his sons Alfred and David; daughter-in-law's Jackie & Carole, and four grandchildren: Kevin, Melanie, Rachel, and Daniel. He was loved by all and will be missed greatly but God was calling. He went to meet Him and reunite with Alma.

Visitation begins at 9:15am, Rosary at 9:45am, Funeral Mass at 10:30am on Friday, October 18, 2019 at St. Gregory Catholic Church in San Mateo. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Colma.
